PRESIDENT´S LETTER

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we get set to kick-off the 2005 season, I’d like to first welcome you to the Pacifica Tigersharks, better known around here as the Tigersharks Family. For those of you returning from last year, welcome back! For those of you who will be first time Tigersharks, get ready for what I hope will be a rewarding experience, not only for your son or daughter, but for your entire family as well. Soon you’ll see just why we frequently refer to this program as the Tigersharks Family.

The 2004 season was a great success. Our Pee Wee football team came away with the Division III Peninsula Pop Warner Championship AND the Division III Regional Championship. Our Midget team was the Division III Peninsula Runner-Up. With success came the reward of having been moved up to Division II for the upcoming season. This not only demonstrates the fact that our program is on the rise, but it also allows our football teams to compete for the National Championships in Orlando, Florida, a privilege not granted to teams in Division III.

2004 was also a banner year for our cheerleading program. Our lady Tigersharks brought home six trophies in 2004 to add to the collection of hardware that they’ve won over the years. Our Jr. Pee Wee squad placed 5th in the Invitational Competition and 4th in the Conference Competition last year. Our Midget team placed 5th in Invitationals as well. Our Pee Wee team, like its football counterpart, enjoyed success at all levels, having placed 2nd in the Invitational Competition, the Conference Competition, and the Regional Competition. They then went on to compete in the National Competition at Disney World in Orlando, Florida for the third consecutive year. The Pee Wees represented the Pacifica Tigersharks in grand style, having ranked 8th in the nation in 2004.

As great a year the 2004 season was for everyone, I’m excited about the prospects for the 2005 season. I’m happy to say that we have introduced a new level of play this year, the Tiney-Mites, and the response has been overwhelming. As of today, the Tiney-Mites roster is full. I know we’re all looking forward to seeing them on the field. In addition to the Tiney-Mites, we will once again have teams from the Jr. Pee Wee level through the Midget level. Last year, we were unable to field a team at the Jr. Midget level. So, as you can see, the program is growing and hopefully next year we’ll be able to field even more teams.

This year you’ll notice our new uniforms. Over the next two years, we will be getting new uniforms for all football teams and cheer squads. It is our feeling that the new uniforms will give our teams a new sense of pride. I think you’ll be pleased when we roll them out this year.

Higher enrollment and new uniforms are examples of goals that we have already met for 2005. Another goal was to get a Booster Club up and running. This is certainly not a task that one person can do alone, which has always been the case in previous years. We’ve finally been able to rope a group of people together to run the Booster Club for the 2005 season and they have already begun planning several events. You’ll be hearing more from them throughout the season with specific details of what they have in the pipeline. We’re counting on you to join the Booster Club and help keep it running strong for years to come.

Finally, I think it’s important to note that a good organization is only as good as its people. I like to think that we are a great organization and it’s not because of what any one person does. This is a great organization because it has great people: great coaches, great staff, great parents, and most importantly, great kids. Remember, we are all involved because we want to make a difference in the lives of the children in our community.

My ultimate goal is to help provide a program that your children will remember for the rest of their lives. I hope that when they leave our program and enter high school, they leave our program having learned not only the fundamentals about the game of football and cheerleading, but also the fundamentals of the game of life. I’m encouraged by the fact that every year our program continues to grow. I’m encouraged by the fact that it’s growing because of the great people who choose to be part of this experience. I’m encouraged that you, as parents, have chosen to add your name to the growing list of members of this Tigersharks Family.

Here’s to a successful and safe 2005 season. Go Tigersharks!

Sincerely,

Dave Mercurio
